Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of G3 Gatsby Facial Wash – Facial Wash Series
It seems like the producers have discovered the key to commercial success (as in, success with commercials, HAH).
Humour. It ALWAYS works.
The more outrageous it is, the better!
One part contrast between the protagonist and the superstar [checked], one part glamorous music that heightens the catwalk effect [ checked], and one part cheesy lines that cues eyes-rolling [checked!].
This commercial not only captured my attention, but my peers as well. It is funny, it features a legendary super star and has real catchy music. What else is there to ask for?
Voted ,for sure!
Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of G10 Tic Tac Sweets – Bounce
Yes, they’ve got it right on, being in the office can be terribly boring. The concept for this commercial is really simple – take the circus into the office and the acts perform with Tic Tacs. With modern technology and advance storyboarding/scriptwriting, the colours and angles on this commercial could be better though. It looks rather flat and really makes a great concept feeling lacking.
On a lighter note, contrary to popular belief, Tic Tac wants you to play with your food! And believe it or not, I did pick up a Mango flavoured Tic-Tac on the next trip to the local supermarket.
Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of G8 Solvil Et Titus – These 3 Years
OH DON’T WE JUST LOVE DRAMA IN OUR LIVES?! (hence all the virtual screaming done with my Caps Lock button). Anyway, Taiwanese dramas never get old, especially not with lonely hearts trying to live up romance a little.
Having a short story embedded into a commercial definitely does make it more attractive. But of course, the devil is in the details coz there is a difference between being able to tell a story and to do it really convincingly.
For this short 3-min video, I found myself anxious to find out when the male lead was going to take the first step. An A+ for effort and I feel the significance of the product is subtly brought across. Romantics out there would certainly go gaga over this little episode in their lives they’ve been wishing for.

I’m quite the noob when it comes to photography. Big fat lenses and DSLRs are an alien language to me for as long as i remember.
Still, that did not deter from me enjoying the fruits of other shutterbugs’ labour, i guess. I particularly love poring over photos taken of simple subjects such as this:

Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of G2 FedEx – Zombie Outbreak!
You’ve got to love this commercial. Not just for the guts to adopt the Zombie craze theme, not just for the effort put into Zombie makeup, not just for having the guts to take on stereotypes (cue Panicky Asian Lady), and not just for the hyped up drama and tension throughout the start of the commercial.
The entrance of the FedEx Man killed it!
It was freakingfantasticcoolestthingmostamazinghilarious … You get the idea. Looking at how relaxed the FedEx Man was and how casual he looked – it was funny as hell (no pun intended).
The absolute ridicule that removed all tension and drama from the “survivors’” situation just by the entrance of the FedEx Man elevated the whole commercial, pushing it past the boundaries of comedy. :’D
Bust the water myth
Drinking lots of water makes you feel less hungry, and you should therefore drink lots of it to lose weight.

Is this really true? The answer is ‘no’.
Water does help to lessen hunger pangs for awhile, but it isn’t going to last. Water simply serves as hydration and makes you feel refreshed. If you really wanna lose some pounds, go easy on the carbohydrates coz they make you fat!
You would probably have read about this many times on various forms of media. The truth is, carbohydrates do not make you fat if you eat just enough for your body’s nutritional requirements.
Carbohydrates are your body’s preferred source of energy. If you’re worried about eating too much carbohydrates, go for staples such as brown rice and yams which have a low glycemic index.

Here’s to our weight loss target, girls!
Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of L4 Colorectal Cancer Awareness – Kaki
An aging population coupled with a laid back attitude spells d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r. What more than a great commercial to get people thinking and into action!
There’s a certain homely feel to this commercial (with the setting obviously in Singapore); but with an excellent casting of the lead roles and how natural they gel together, it feels as though both actors have been friends all their lives. The general laid back attitude towards health care in Singaporeans was embodied through both actors, but when came the time for the key message regarding the fight against colorectal cancer, the seriousness of the message was also projected. This made for an educational commercial that did NOT come across as cheesy at all. 5 thumbs up!
If this TVC got you laughing, vote for it la, friend…
Viewers’ Choice 2011 – L1 Canon EOS 600 D – Man vs Man
Ferret? Weasel? Dehydrated Cat?
Haha.
I have no idea what that white animal in the commercial was, all I know is, two men chasing each other with cameras would have been weird without this cute furry lead. With high action commercials featuring moves from pakour, and sports commercials coming up with action-packed concepts this commercial matches up in comparison, considering they had an expensive and fragile camera in hand.
Credit to the producers for squeezing in all of the product’s features in this short space. The commercial was pretty much straightforward and unfortunately didn’t capture my imagination.
Just one last question – is the little furball for sale? ![]()
MediaCorp Viewers’ Choice 2011 – G4 Heineken Beer – Entrance
What a party alright. Having casted a lead that looks like Orlando Bloom, and having The Asteroids Galaxy Tour’s music playing, this commercial deals a deadly combo.
The most absurd party kicked off with a whole host of outstanding individuals. The one thing that stood out for this commercial was its larger than life characters having a ball of a time at the Heineken party.
Although the storyline (or lack of one) marred the commercial by a little, the casting was fantastic and deserves to be watched repetitively.
Viewers’ Choice 2011: My review of L3 Dequadin – Yes Sir
No, look away from the screen when this commercial comes up during your TV dinner. You might just choke from how hilarious it is!
Coming from a back ground of uniform groups (which I’m sure loads of Singaporeans) can relate to, this one hit home immediately. It was just apt how the drill sergeant’s mean looks were belittled by a sore throat and the situation was remedied (yes, pun intended) with Dequadin.
Short but sweet, funny and relatable – a great commercial with a fantastic concept.
